i just installed sourcebans, and everything seems to be working. but i have a couple questions;

  • should i remove the banned_user.cfg file on the servers? they now include all my bans; i assume these are cumulative with the sourcbans database? if so i assume it would be better to just import them to sourcebans and manage it from there?
  • when using hlsw; if i ban someone from the control panel, it simply writes to the banned_user.cfg file. any method to get these bans over to sourcebans without doing it manually?
  • is there a way to ban an ip address like banned_ip.cfg using sourcebans?
  • if i ban someone with the sourcemod panel, does it ban them on sourcebans as well? or do i have to use the sm_ban command?
  • does the plugin simply query the database each time someone joins? so if the sql server is down, even 'banned' players can enter the
server during that time?

thanks!

Hi markg,

  • Yes, you should import the local banfiles into SourceBans and clean them out. In some cases SB is still using the local banmanagement, so don't worry if there are some 5 min bans again later on.
  • You shouldn't use banid anymore, but sm_ban instead. With HLSW 1.3.2 SourceMod is natively supported by the contextmenu in the playerlist.
  • Yes. Use sm_banip since there is no way to do it through the ingame menu. At the webpanel, you just need to set the ban type to IP instead of SteamID while adding a ban.
  • SourceBans replaces the normal sourcemod basebans.smx plugin and all of its functionality. You can savely use the Ban Player option in the admin menu to ban by SteamID
  • Yes. Take care, your database isn't offline too much;)

one further question about the integration with hlsw.

if i ban someone with the hlsw control panel, they are banned, but....it doesnt show up on the sourcebans web site/panel.
is this a configuration issue or just the way it is? i would certainly like to show ANY bans in the web panel, not just the ones done via in game or via the panel.

thanks,
